Junior Achievement
Since 1919, Junior Achievement of Southeast Michigan (JA) has helped over 10 million students through their programs focused on inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in the global economy. Junior Achievement provides in-depth and engaging, prepared curriculum for volunteers and students covering Entrepreneurship, Personal Finance, and Career Success. Additionally, JA has opportunities for Job Shadowing and participation in their hands-on facility, Quicken Loans JA Finance Park, in downtown Detroit.
That Next Level Foundation chairman, Shawn Stafford, a product of Detroit Public Schools (DPS) and successful entrepreneur, made it a top priority for TNL Foundation to directly give back to low income areas. In the spring semester of 2017, TNL began its partnership with JA with a donation of $10,000. Through the donation, TNL sponsored 7 Personal Finance and 3 Career Success classes at Cody Medicine and Community Health High School. TNL recruited 12 volunteers from varied professional backgrounds (medicine, engineering, property management, business, human resources, etc) to teach the students skills in budgeting, proper use of credit, communication, management and more; drawing from JA’s well-established curriculum as well as their own real-world personal experiences. TNL was able to continue it’s partnership with JA and Cody MCH for the 2017-18 school year. To date, TNL volunteers have taught the JA curriculum to over 400 students at DPS schools. TNL will continue to partner with JA and DPS for the 2018-19 school year at Cody MCH High School with plans to expand to other high schools in the future.
